Unlock your clients’ potential with a superior strength framework

In the health and fitness world, “strength” is often given a narrow definition, which is typically limited to force production in the sagittal plane from a symmetrical viewpoint. While this works fine in the weight room, it often has little transfer to life, sport, and most activities outside the gym.

Led by Michol Dalcourt, internationally recognized industry leader and founder of the renowned Institute of Motion (IoM), this course explores a more inclusive definition of strength, which includes the many different ways we can generate force. Defined here as Odd Position Strength Training (OPST), this broader approach to fitness takes into account uncommon loading patterns, including how these affect the body, how to properly engage these patterns, and what outcomes and adaptations to expect from this type of exposure.

By understanding the theory and practical application of OPST, you’ll be empowered to incorporate it into your programming in a systematic and progressive way. At the end of this course, you’ll have a firm grasp of why this type of strength training is so important and how to start unlocking your clients’ unlimited potential for both strength and resilience.

Upon completion, you will be able to:

  • Distinguish ‘good form’ from ‘bad form’ in OPST
  • Begin and progress OPST and understand why it’s vital for adaptation and performance gains
  • Understand the biomechanical benefits of pre-stress and shape stability in strength outcomes
  • Incorporate odd position lifts and shifts into a balanced program

Reviews

The theories and thought processes that were discussed are similar how I think and they represent my specific passion in regards to healthy athletic exercise. Everything made sense and it gave me great new ideas.

I don't typically review courses but I felt that I needed to comment on this one to help others make an informed decision prior to purchasing this two-part course. On the positive side, the instructor was incredibly knowledgeable and the content was professionally edited. On the negative side: 1. This course was originally advertised as a free continuing education seminar. However, only the first hour was free and after watching that, the ACE expert informed us that we had to pay to see the second video & quiz which is required to earn the CE credit. 2. The second video was a 1 hour ViPR Pro commercial, which I wasn't expecting since the course description references "odd objects", not ViPR Pro, i.e. I thought I was going to learn how to use multiple different odd objects. 3. This content contains a lot of technical jargon that I would never use with a typical personal training client. Perhaps if you train high level athletes or teach at a university then you would find the technical jargon helpful. Again, the videos were professional and the instructor was very knowledgeable, but I only learned how to build strength using a ViPR Pro.

Generally, a LOT of details to concentrate on. Educator moved very quickly without much repetion of key points. But at least I can rewatch videos to take notes.
