Healthy Gut, Healthy Mind
The “gut-brain-axis” is an exciting area of research, but what does the science say about the connection? And how can you communicate this to your clients?
In this course, you will gain an understanding of how nutrition affects the gut and brain through an examination of evidence-based relationships among specific nutrients, digestive health, and mental wellbeing. Plus, you’ll learn how to translate the latest scientific developments to your clients, including the limitations and gaps in the data, while remaining in your scope of practice.
Learn about the intestinal microbiome and microorganisms, how they relate to gut disorders, and the effectiveness of pro/pre-biotics. Then take a deep dive into exactly how macro and micronutrients work together to make the brain function optimally. This means understanding how the brain produces energy, how nutrients can sustain mental energy, and how well-studied healthy eating patterns can combat neurodegenerative decline.
Developed by Rachele Pojednic, PhD, EdM, NBC-HWC, CSCS, and Emily Johnson, MS, RD, this course will allow you to provide accurate, evidence-based information to your clients on a topic that may be a potential source of confusion.
Upon completion, you will be able to:
- Identify how organs like the brain and gut interact with specific nutrients
- Provide practical advice to improve dietary behaviors
- Utilize evidence-based resources to maintain the most up-to-date knowledge, skills, and tools to promote good nutrition
