An Overview of Guiding Clients Through Lifestyle Intervention
More and more exercise and health professionals are working closely with clients with chronic diseases related to their lifestyle. It’s important to provide these clients evidence-based information on what to do, how to do it and direction on referrals while guiding them through lifestyle change.
Personalized nutrition uses diagnostic tools to identify how a person’s unique molecular and genetic profile might predispose them to or protect them from certain diseases. This information can then be used to tailor interventions i.e. diet, exercise, medication, etc. While personalized nutrition plans are outside the scope of practice for exercise professionals, a better understanding of what genetic and epigenetic factors may impact a client’s lifestyle, disease risk and ultimately their health is essential to providing the best care and service.
In this webinar, you will first learn some of the terminology used in personalized health exploration and review applications examples of personalized lifestyle interventions. Then, you will examine the benefits (i.e. not one size fits all approach), risks (i.e. elitism, patient privacy and identifying untreatable life-altering diseases) and applications to lifestyle interventions more closely.
Led by Dominique Adair, MS., RD., a nutrition and fitness advisor, public speaker, educator, writer and President of Adair Fitness & Nutrition along with Alison Steiber, Ph.D., a registered dietician nutritionist and Chief Science Officer at the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics, this two part series will provide an introduction to biological and genetic factors that affect your clients so that you can better help them along their journey toward better health.
Upon completion, you will be able to:
• Understand the terminology used in discussion of personalized medicine
• Understand lifestyle interventions, specifically nutrition, as they relate to individualized dietary education
• Debate the pros and cons of personalized lifestyle interventions
• Understand how and where to pursue qualified developments in this field
• Determine whether incorporating aspects of these innovations into your practice has merit
Reviews
Did not focus on nutrition, but genetic testing
No specific or applicable nutrition information was presented in this course.
The title was misleading, was not what I was expected. Course was very hard to maintain attention because the two videos were an hour long. Unfortunately the information was boring and basic.
This course was not useful at all for our professions. It also has absolutely NOTHING to do with nutrition. Not one thing. Very misleading title, and quite a waste of 2 hours. It's frustrating working my way through these courses that I learn nothing on, and have to google the answers for to pass. Some are much better than others, and I'm not someone to leave a review, but don't waist your time (or money if you are not part of the CEC club).
