Help Breast Cancer Survivors Recover and Thrive
Imagine getting the news that you have been diagnosed with cancer. If it has happened to you or someone you know, you understand that everything changes in an instant. Many women experience a combination of overpowering emotions—fear, helplessness, confusion, desperation—all at the same time. Given the fact that, according to breastcancer.org, approximately 1 in 8 women will suffer from breast cancer at some point in their lives, there is a very good chance someone in your life has been affected by breast cancer. And if there is, you know that they experience another, more powerful emotion as well—determination.
The human spirit is an amazing thing. Every day, millions of breast cancer survivors are physically, mentally and emotionally fighting their way through recovery. But they can’t do it alone.
The road to recovery can be arduous, but the right exercise program can help breast cancer survivors regain their strength—and their confidence. The Pink Ribbon Program will teach you to help breast cancer survivors achieve independence, maximize their quality of life and regain their healthy bodies.
The course, led by Doreen Puglisi, MS—an influencer in the rehab recovery for the breast cancer community and expert on the effects of surgery and treatment on the physiology of the breast cancer patient—is designed to restore range of motion and strength to the upper body that may have been lost because of treatment for the disease.
Career Outlook
The Pink Ribbon Program is the only medical fitness program created specifically to help those recovering from breast cancer, offering health and fitness professionals the opportunity to serve a population of need, and gain a foothold in a niche market in the industry. You will increase your knowledge-base and skill set, and get the chance to work with patients throughout the entire treatment and recovery process—and beyond.
You will learn:
- How to design a comprehensive exercise program tailored specifically to those recovering from breast cancer treatment or surgery.
- Details about the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer to better understand how the disease effects the body, and how each individual responds differently to treatment.
- How cancer-related fatigue impacts the survivor’s ability to function on a day-to-day basis.
- About the different oncology surgeries—including breast reconstruction—and the impact of these surgeries on physical mobility.
- How to build rapport with your clients and use appropriate language and terminology.
