Understanding the Psychology of Chronic Pain
More than 25 million Americans suffer from chronic pain on a daily basis, significantly impacting their physical and mental well-being. Those who suffer from chronic pain can experience feelings of desperation as their search for relief comes up empty, or even resignation that relief will never come. Understanding your clients’ pain from their psychological and emotional viewpoint will help you make great progress in mitigating it.
In Coaching Clients With Chronic Pain: Relief From the Inside Out, Kevin Murray, the co-developer of the Pain-Free Movement Specialist Program, will teach you to recognize, anticipate and meet or exceed the deepest psychological and social needs of your clients. This approach will help you learn to work more effectively with clients who suffer from chronic pain and help them ease the discomfort that they live with every day.
You will learn:
- Why the brain acts the way it does when pain is present and how creating positive stories can create a medium for understanding and coherence
- How to recognize and appreciate the three-dimensional nature working with people in pain demands, specifically in the psycho-social realm
- How to help clients expand their level of awareness and transform fear and anxiety into curiosity and possibility
- How education, language, metaphors and questions act as an interdependent, cohesive system designed to ultimately guide clients towards scripting their own blueprint for a pain-free life
Reviews
Good look into linguistics and the psychological component of pain
Amazing presentation! I have struggled with back pain before, so I understand firsthand the frustration and emotions behind chronic pain, and can empathize with individuals who share similar struggles. I really liked how the presenter and host interacted with each other throughout the presentation, and how the presenter explained everything in depth.
